Mission
Neoen’s Grid Connection Team is seeking a Grid Connection Engineer based in Canberra working closely with Neoen’s operational generation and storage assets through the Asset Managers and the 24/7 control room team. The role is focused on supporting Connection related topics primarily with the Construction and Asset Management teams and also some activities with the Project Development team.
As part of the Grid Connection team (5 people currently) you would be a dedicated team player, ensuring coordination of the network connection process within Neoen and with external entities (AEMO, NSPs, Regulator, engineering consultants, EPC) with high standards and attention to detail, motivated to deliver on project milestones.
You will have responsibilities working with the Connection Team to support Neoen Australia’s Construction Projects, Operating Assets and Project Developments, related to activities including:
- Being physically present in the Control Room for all commissioning and testing related to Construction projects and operating assets.
- Ensuring the management of commissioning testing for Construction Projects and Operating Assets is integrated into the Operational Control Centre’s planning and management.
- Weekly reporting to the Connection team of Operational events or outages which affect (or may affect) Assets or Construction Projects.
- Supporting Asset Management team to ensure Generator Performance Standard compliance monitoring programs are occurring according Neoen’s obligations under the National Electricity Rules (NER).
- Supporting and leading change processes for Assets for S5.2.2 and 5.3.9 processes (NEM) or Potential RGM processes (WEM). This will include working with Grid Consultants under the guidance of Connection team members to develop and submit Engineering Due Diligences work packages to NSPs and AEMO
- Raise and track the opening, ongoing management and closure of non-compliances for Assets or Construction Projects under the 4.15 process (NER)
- With guidance from Connection team members, support new Development Project grid suitability assessments to determine optimal sizing for proposed connection locations within the transmission network
- Supporting activities within the Operational control Centre necessary for Construction Projects to achieve Market Registration (NER) or Approval to Energise and Commission (WEM)
- With guidance from Connection team members, undertake investigations assisting improving the financial performance of Generation assets (e.g. FCAS reclassification for wind or solar assets)
- With guidance from Connection team members, support power systems studies and investigations being undertake for new Neoen developments
- Reading and being aware of industry developments, including AEMC Rule changes
Profil
The following skills and experience to succeed in this role include:
- Have a recognised qualification (Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma, etc) in an Electrical Engineering field, or other relevant qualification in a similar discipline.
- You are curious, reliable, organised, team focused, rigorous and analytical, with a capacity to work under pressure
- You can self-regulate to maintain a healthy approach to work of this nature, whilst delivering on the needs of the business
- Your English is to a level of full working proficiency (written and spoken)
Highly regarded skills, though not essential, include:
- Any knowledge or experience with power system modelling programs and how it is used for Grid Connection Assessment (e.g. PSS/e, PSCAD, PowerFactory, etc);
- Experience with NEM/WEM registration and testing/commissioning processes
- Experience in or reasonable working knowledge of the operation of Generators in the NEM/WEM, including energy, ancillary services and non-market services.
- Working knowledge of or experience with interconnection process with NSPs for utility scale power production plants
- Experience with commercial contracts and commercial negotiations involved in Transmission & Distribution Infrastructure projects
