Mission
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Accounting professional to play a key role in the Financial Reporting & Control team. In order to assist Neoen´s long term growth and operational strategy in Canada, you will have the opportunity to gain invaluable exposure across all aspects of the accounting function, as well as work alongside senior members of the team. The ideal candidate must be a team player with a willingness to learn and develop their knowledge. Prior experience in accounting role is essential but the right attitude, self-motivation, ambition & show of commitment is more important.
Based in Toronto, you will report to the Canadian Financial Controller. The role will focus on financial and business reporting, treasury and account payable day to day activities, internal control, taxes, accounting, budget and corporate matters for the North America entities (Canada and USA). The description of this position´s main responsibilities as follows:
- Preparation of Monthly Closing and Reporting
- Balance Sheet and Profit & loss statement Analysis
- Overall control over payments and vendors activities
- Analyzing variances of actuals versus forecast and budgets
- Enhance processes and procedures on an ongoing basis to ensure a strong control environment-
- Reporting to management on daily/monthly requirements and responding to queries in a timely manner.
- Taking responsibility and ownership of tasks
- Supporting other departments across the company
- Assist in audit preparation.
- Ad-hoc tasks
Financial procedures and statutory compliance
- Applying finance, accounting, taxes, payments, and administrative procedures, in line with local requirements and Group procedures
- Coordinating financial information between local business team, group consolidation team and external accounting team. Supervise the work of the latter.
- Responsible for compiling, analyzing, and developing financial reports including P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflow, internal controls, etc.
- Enhancing the accuracy of the annual financial statements and ensure that reported results comply with IFRS.
- Assisting in audit preparation and compliance reports to government entities
- Preparing audit files and liaising with external auditors (“Big 4”) to ensure completion of all statutory obligations.
Budget and reporting
- Preparing budgets and forecasts, including the monthly follow-up and update of the construction budget in close collaboration with the local Construction Department.
- Analyzing variances of actuals versus forecast and budgets.
- Monitor the construction cash flow forecast.
- Follow the construction costs in comparison with the finance model and budgets/forecasts.
Taxes
- Tax analysis and process optimization for monthly and annual tax returns.
- Ensuring proper control of local tax returns prepared by local external accountants.
- Assisting and liaising with external tax advisors on ad hoc projects such as Tax planning and process optimization
Daily cash management
- Process and supervise the weekly payment of all North American companies.
- Management of cash flows between the different companies of the group, reconciliation between forecast and actual.
- Ensure proper control over all cash and banks operations.
- Bank account management control (opening/closing, KYC)
- Receipt, control and process vendor invoices.
- Assisting and liaising with external tax advisors on ad hoc task such as vendor payment related tax calculation or request of withholding certificates.
- Contribution to the realization of the cash forecast in relation with the financial control team.
- Assisting the leadership team with ad-hoc projects / initiatives
Profile
The candidate will need the following skills and experience to succeed in this role:
- Hold a degree in management, accountancy or finance related field, and 4-5 years' work experience in audit, accounting, or similar financial roles. Ideally you will have experience in a big 4 company.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
- Excellent organizational, analytical and time management skills.
- High attention to detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
- Reliable, results oriented, autonomous, rigorous and analytical.
- Flexible and adaptable personality with ability to handle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Fluent English (written and spoken). Spanish will be a plus.
- Good sense of humor and enjoy working in an international and multicultural environment.
