Mission
Neoen’s Energy Management Team is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to take ownership of data storage, access and ingestion across a growing ecosystem of energy market applications. These applications are operations-critical in nature, ensuring strong revenues and compliance in Australia’s energy markets while supporting Neoen’s future expansion plans. The team is defined by a combination of software engineering skills, market expertise, and quantitative capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Data Ownership & Operational Excellence
- Maintain and take ownership of core databases (primarily SQL Server) used in real-time and production-critical environments.
- Determine and standardise best practices for database versioning and schema migration processes across applications.
- Implement data maintenance strategies including automated purging, archiving and index optimisation.
System Design and Governance
- Develop efficient and reliable data pipelines for energy market and asset telemetry data.
- Define the structure and lifecycle of datasets across Energy Management applications (~10 and growing) to optimise performance, availability and cost.
- Support consolidation and simplification of disparate database access patterns into shared, maintainable libraries or services.
- Establish team-wide standards for data ingestion, transformation, storage and access.
Team Enablement and Leadership
- Partner with engineers and analysts to resolve complex operational issues, understand bottlenecks in data access and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Mentor junior developers and data practitioners on efficient querying, modelling, and pipeline design.
- Guide the evaluation and integration of modern data tooling (e.g., orchestration, monitoring, data warehousing systems).
Profile
Essential Experience
- 4+ years’ experience in data engineering roles, including experience with relational databases in an operations-critical capacity.
- Proven track record designing scalable data architectures across multiple applications or services.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Demonstrated experience implementing schema migration/version control at scale.
- Track record of operating in mature data environments, with established processes for quality, governance, and continuous improvement.
- Strong appetite for software & data quality, implementing modern tooling, and solving problems proactively.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD, containerisation (e.g., Docker), and deploying data systems in cloudbased environments (Azure, AWS, or equivalent).
- Hands-on experience with data orchestration tools (Dagster, Prefect, Azure data platform, etc.).
- Experience in the energy sector or other real-time operations domains.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code approaches to data system deployment.
- Exposure to revenue modelling, time series forecasting, or optimisation pipelines.
- Prior experience establishing data governance frameworks in a scale-up or cross-functional environment.
About Neoen
Founded in 2008, and owned since April 2025 by Brookfield, Neoen is one of the world’s leading independent producers of exclusively renewable energy, with expertise in power generation – solar and onshore wind power – and storage. Neoen plays an active role in accelerating the energy transition of the countries where it operates by delivering clean, competitively-priced local energy. Neoen is a high-growth company: its capacity in operation or under construction has quadrupled over the last six years and now stands at 8.5 GW. We are aiming to deliver an additional 10 GW by 2030. Neoen operates near close to 200 assets across three continents. Its flagships include Western Downs Green Power Hub in Australia, comprised of the largest solar farm in the country (460 MWp) and Western Downs Battery (212 MW / 424 MWh); Collie Battery (219 MW / 877 MWh) one of the world’s most powerful large-scale storage systems; France’s most powerful solar farm (300 MWp) in Cestas; and Finland’s largest wind farm (404 MW) in Mutkalampi.
