Mission

Neoen New Zealand is looking for a Senior Project Manager to lead the development of utility-scale solar, wind and storage projects from site identification through to handover to our construction team. In this position, you will drive complex projects across multiple workstreams, engage with key internal and external stakeholders, and oversee multidimensional topics (civil and electrical design, connection, environmental studies, consenting, commercial structuring, etc), as well as the management of technical consultants and suppliers. 

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Lead the origination, development and execution of utility-scale renewable energy projects, including solar, wind and storage, from early-stage assessment through to financial close
  • Define and drive project development strategies, key milestones, budgets, risk mitigation plans and stakeholder engagement plans
  • Lead negotiations for land agreements, key commercial contracts and development-related arrangements with external partners and counterparties
  • Oversee consenting processes in coordination with consultants, Iwi, local authorities and relevant government bodies
  • Manage grid connection strategy and application processes with transmission and distribution network operators
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, communities, public authorities, advisors and other key project stakeholders
  • Ensure technical solutions meet Neoen standards and support robust project economics, bankability and constructability
  • Support and coordinate internal interfaces across engineering, legal, finance, procurement and construction teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Lead project inputs to public and private tenders, partnership discussions, investment approvals and internal decision-making processes
  • Drive projects to financial close and hand over to Neoen’s construction and operations teams under agreed conditions, timelines and performance expectations

Profile

The candidate will need the following skills and experience to succeed in this role:

  • Tertiary degree in engineering, project management or another relevant discipline providing transferable and relatable skills resource management, science, law, etc.))
  • At least 7 years of experience in the development and/or delivery of large-scale renewable energy or infrastructure projects, ideally across solar, wind and storage (experience in wind development will be highly regarded) 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, disciplines and workstreams in a dynamic environment
  • Strong understanding of consenting, land, grid connection, commercial structuring and project risk management
  • Proven experience managing external consultants, contractors, landowners, stakeholder groups, Iwi, public authorities and internal cross-functional teams
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation and decision-making skills, with a results-oriented mindset
