Neoen is looking for a High Voltage expert to act as the company technical owner for HV substations and HV equipment used on our Solar, Wind, Storage and Datacenter power plants — from early design and permitting through procurement, construction, commissioning and operations.

Key tasks include:

  • Develop and enhance the internal guidelines and technical specifications for HV substations (from 66 kV to 550 kV) and HV equipment (design, layout requirement)
  • Define HV substation architecture and the redundancy level appropriate to each project: busbar configuration, N-1 criteria, transformer and protection duplication, redundancy of DC supplies, telecom and SCADA.
  • Assist the Procurement teams in the following tasks :
  1. Write and review the technical specifications for HV power transformers and other HV equipment (Dead tank Breaker, GIS…); evaluate supplier offers and deviation lists; approve test plans; witness factory tests
  2. Assist in providing early-stage cost estimations
  3. Review, challenge and analyses of HV substation design submitted by contractor: design & cost optimizations layout and clearances, redundancy philosophy
  4. Review and challenge the critical list of spare parts proposed by the suppliers
  5. Support Design and/or Owner Engineers selection (Mastergrid, Elys, Aurecon, Aecom, GHD…) before or after contract signature
  • Early-stage support to the Development Team :
  1. Preliminary layout of the HV substation for prospection and permitting,

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or a related technical field.
  • 5 years’ experience in design, engineering, construction, commissioning or operation of HV substations and equipment, ideally across voltage levels from 66 kV to 400 kV.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HV substation architecture, including busbar configurations, redundancy philosophy, protection systems, DC supplies, telecom and SCADA.
  • Proven ability to prepare and review technical specifications, designs, supplier offers, deviation lists, test plans and commissioning procedures for HV equipment.
  • Experience with HV power transformers, circuit breakers, GIS and associated substation equipment, including factory acceptance testing and technical supplier evaluation.
  • Ability to review and challenge contractor designs, identify cost and design optimisations, and assess critical spare-parts strategies.
  • Experience supporting projects throughout the full lifecycle, from early-stage development and grid connection studies through construction, energisation and operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in substation audits, defect analysis, failure investigations and root-cause analysis.
